A theatrical improv match is a face-off between two teams of performers who compete on stage—no script, just a simple arena and lots of imagination!

Inspired by hockey, each match is led by a referee who gives themes and imposes constraints: time limits, styles, number of players… The teams have just a few seconds to prepare, and then it’s go time—they create an improvised scene right before your eyes.

After each scene, the audience votes for the team they liked best.

Humour, emotion, absurdity, poetry—every game night is unique, and every match is a lively, surprising, and often hilarious show.

Come laugh, vote… and sometimes even join in!

The 2025–2026 season marks the launch of the very first true French-language improv league for adults in British Columbia.
Born from a partnership between the Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver and the ligue Impro 18+, this is the first time a structured season of French-language improv matches is being held in the province.

How did the project come about?

This project was born from a collaboration between the ligue Impro 18+ and the Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver, united by a shared belief: improv is fun, accessible, and a fantastic way to bring the Francophone community together in a vibrant and creative setting.

By combining their resources, networks, and expertise, the league and the Centre aim to offer Francophone and Francophile adults a space for creation, expression, and connection. This collaboration anchors the project in a professional, structured, and sustainable approach, while providing a consistent artistic experience—in French—right here in Vancouver.

The goal is clear: to establish this league as a key part of the local cultural scene and make it a must-see event within the Francophone community. And why stop there? In the long term, we dream of building connections with other Francophone leagues across the country and proudly representing British Columbia in interprovincial matches.

Why a Francophone league in British Columbia?

The creation of a French-language improv league in British Columbia responds to a real need: to bring the Francophone community together around an inclusive, festive artistic project. Improv is a lively form of expression that celebrates the French language while fostering social connection and shared joy!

This project aims to offer a platform for Francophones and Francophiles in the region—whether beginners or experienced—to meet, create together, and help the Francophone culture thrive through a series of public improv matches held throughout the year.
