About the event
This remarkable singer, musician, composer and producer from Guadeloupe has made her name as an internationally recognised artist thanks to her many collaborations. Since working on the album “Family Dinner” with the American multiple Grammy Award winning band Snarky Puppy, the name of Malika Tirolien has become well known in the music industry. Her electrifying interpretation of the piece “I’m not the one” has now had over 2 million viewings on Youtube and has inspired countless covers by artists all over the world.
Her first album, “Sur la voie Ensoleillée” (On the sunny road”), made it to number 5 in the iTunes rankings in the R&B/Soul category when it was released in 2014. In 2020, the group Bokanté, in which Malika is the lead singer as well as co-scriptwriter, was nominated in the Grammy Awards for its second album “What Heat”, a culminating point for this international band that has toured in more than 20 countries since its founding in 2016.
As there is no point changing a winning team, Malika Tirolien will produce her second solo album “HIGHER” with Michael League (five-time Grammy Award winner and leader of the famous band Snarky Puppy). This is the second part of a tetralogy that represents the four elements, which she began with her first album. If “Sur la voie Ensoleillée” represented Earth, roots and being anchored, this second album represents Air, elevation and the winds of change that are set to music in a completely new style. Blending R&B, soul, jazz and Hip Hop, HighSoul serves here as the soundtrack for a psychedelic trip for amateurs of cannabis and hallucinogenic mushrooms. Malika’s soaring voice immediately captures attention and her well thought-out compositions present effusive emotions through lyrics that are aware and engaged, relating her own spiritual voyage between anger and forgiveness. Her love, passion and respect for music can be felt in the shimmering authenticity of her performances.
In her appearance at the 34th Festival d’été francophone de Vancouver, Malika Tirolien will present a repertoire of songs in French, English, and Créole.
