About the event

Héron:

Héron is a folk song project. Surrounded by musicians from Montreal's trad and pop scenes, Henri Kinkead seeks to weave links between his own musical baggage and Quebec's living heritage. Inspired by keb folk, 2000s indie rock and the reels of Louis Boudreault,

Héron offers a collection of songs that are both personal and festive, rooted in Quebec's musical roots in an unashamedly assertive way.

For Héron, songs carried by the grandiose energy of the forests and the river express the immense fragility of being. In live performance, the combination of chorus, violin and percussion will have even the most numb hipster tapping his or her toes.

Gabriel Dubreuil:

Gabriel Dubreuil is a highly sought-after violinist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, sideman, conductor and producer with an impressive musical background. Born and raised in British Columbia, he fell in love with the violin at an early age. Over the years, Gabriel has mastered multiple instruments in a wide range of musical genres, blending Celtic, Canadian fiddle, jazz, swing and rock styles with style and flair.

Gabriel honed his skills studying with renowned fiddlers Matt Glaser, Darol Anger and Jason Anick, and earning a degree in jazz performance and American roots music at Berklee College of Music. A musical chameleon, he has an extensive discography, having recorded dozens of albums with renowned musicians and producers.

As a founding member of Celtic rock band Early Spirit, Gabriel has become an important figure on the Canadian music scene. Early Spirit's first album, "Unrelated", was produced by Grammy and Juno award-winning musician and producer Leonard Podolak (The Dhuks). The band's latest album, "The Hollow Tree" (2022), is a must-have for Celtic rock fans.

In addition to Early Spirit, Gabriel is also the leader of Collage Trad, a musical melting pot of local fiddle traditions infused with swing, jazz, rock and pure folk elements. This six-piece ensemble has developed an explosive, exceptionally tight and cohesive sound that is both driving and energizing.

Gabriel is also the Executive Artistic Director of Vancouver's North Shore Celtic Ensemble, a youth performing arts group featuring some of Vancouver's most promising young musicians. The Ensemble was founded in 1988 by Claude Giguere and Early Spirit member Jay Knutson, and boasts hundreds of Vancouver alumni, including Gabriel himself.

Gabriel Dubreuil's impressive musical talent and versatility make him one of the most exciting artists on the Canadian music scene today.
