"The deepest tendency of all human activity is the march towards balance." Jean Piaget Balance is a state of bliss to which everyone aspires. Achieving a balance among the multiple aspects of our lives is at the heart of our daily existence and it is an endless quest. This search continually invites us to be in motion and in questioning. Creation, like life, is a state of imbalance, a delicate dance where several forces attract us and to which we must react without losing our footing. Natalie and Claudine are both in pursuit of balance in their respective creative fields. Art is indeed a constant search for balance in forms, colors, and space; it is a demanding, intricate work. The search for balance in Claudine's works is initially at a physical level. With her sculptures, the artist delicately balances forms, seeking an equilibrium that allows the work to move without ever losing its harmony. During her creative process, Natalie seeks a balance between colors, forms, and textures while harmonizing a conversation between herself and her work. For Natalie, the time spent in her studio served as an outlet to find a balance between a demanding job and her need to create. Today, she is adapting to a life as an artist in retirement. Her quest for balance lies on the continuum of energy in this new phase of her life. When well-balanced, an artwork generates a sense of satisfaction and well-being in the viewer. We may never fully achieve perfect balance, but we hope to bring a hint of bliss to our audience, who also juggles this perpetual search for balance.

Natalie Morissette Natalie was born in Quebec. In 1989, she moved to Vancouver and began a career in education. In the early 2000s, she and her partner Christophe started exploring drawing and watercolor painting. Architecture served as a source of inspiration for them. For the past five years, Natalie has been exploring Mixed Media techniques, discovering acrylic and image transfer. Since 2019, Natalie has been working in a studio at Parker Street Studios. This exhibition will represent an evolution of her art as well as a quest for balance. Claudine Gevry Claudine Gévry is a multidisciplinary artist who seeks to combat the vicissitudes of ordinary life by creating works that evoke astonishment and wonder. She draws inspiration from artists such as American sculptor Alexander Calder, who invented the art of mobiles, as well as artists experimenting with technology like Studio Drift, based in Amsterdam. Living on the Canadian west coast, Claudine’s art is also greatly influenced by her natural surroundings. Themes of fragility, impermanence, and nature's ability to adapt to various circumstances feed into her work. In recent years, Claudine has been incorporating LED diodes into her sculptures. In 2019, she co-founded Umbra & Lux, an innovative company specializing in luminous sculptures, to delve deeper into this field. Regularly exhibited in art galleries, her sculptures can also be found in corporate collections, such as at the University of British Columbia Pharmaceutical Sciences Building and in the offices of the biotechnology company AbCellera in Vancouver. Originally from Montreal, Claudine now creates her works in Vancouver. Credit photo: Rory McLeod
