EXHIBITION "Timeless, celebrating the beauty and diversity of the human body", BY SANDRINE PELISSIER

From November 11th to December 17th, 2022, Le Centre will host Sandrine Pelissier's exhibition.

I am offering an alternative to representation of women in art by celebrating the true beauty and diversity of real bodies of all ages and shapes.

I am representing the female body in a non-sexual, objectifying, or exploitative way and am challenging the mainstream narrative that women are only worth our attention when adhering to certain stereotypes of youth, thinness, and perfection.

Real people in all their diversity and imperfections deserve to be the subject of fine art and I would like my art to help people, and in particular women feel confident, proud, valued, and accepted as they are.

To me, art is about time and repetition. The time it takes to make a work of art is made visible through repetitive lines, detailed patterns or scribbles that mark seconds like a metronome. I like to think there is value in spending time making something that has no other use than being looked at, being devoted to the creative play, and making that time tangible on the canvas.

Aesthetically, I like to explore tensions created by the balance between opposite concepts, like the symmetry of geometric patterns and the asymmetry of organic designs, transparency and solidity, reality, and imagination. My subjects, even though rooted in realism, often display a splash of the unreal, the unexpected or the whimsical. My direct environment has always been my source of inspiration as I would like my art to make you marvel at our world, and its daily simplicity, humor, and beauty.

All the prints in this exhibition are original limited-edition prints, made in a series of 15.
