For many years, Le Centre Culturel and Montreal's Les Francouvertes have partnered to support young and emerging artists in music. For three days, these two bands will come together in Vancouver to create an original and unique show.

XELA EDNA & EIUS ECHO (QC)

THIS SHOW IS IN COLLABORATION WITH LES FRANCOUVERTES MONTRÉAL MUSIC CONTEST

Xela Edna & Eius Echo are an experimental electronic pop music duo from Montreal formed in 2018. Their artistic approach is defined by sound and vocal experimentation, accompanied by very free poetic lyrics. Drawing on both organic and electronic sounds in their creations, the symbiosis between nature and technology is an important aspect of their work. They draw  inspiration from rock, techno, pop, electroacoustic and orchestral music. Their approach also reflects a balance between dance and reflection. After their collaboration on three EPs, "Ultraviolet", "Alter Ego" and "Bulle" (Bubble), they are now releasing a new single entitled "Flash" from their very first album.

Xela Edna & Eius Echo's new single, "Flash" submerges us in dark flashbacks from an old relationship. "Flash" suggests that our memories distort our interpretation of reality and transport us into a realm of anxiety. Xela raises the specter of emotional manipulation, how drug use alters our memories, and the bitterness of seeing someone happy without us. The song plunges the listener into a concise universe  of sound with dance, techno and hyperpop influences, propelled by provocative drums, a catchy bass line and a hypnotic voice that takes the song by storm from the start. "Flash" stimulates the listener to think while inviting him to sway without restraint on the dance floor.

Le Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver has invited Xela Edna & Eius Echo, semi-finalists of Les Francouvertes competition in 2022, to perform in an artistic residency as part of the 22nd  edition of the Coup de cœur francophone de Vancouver, in which they will be paired with a francophone artist from British Columbia (we will add Beau Nectar when confirmed).

XELA EDNA

Xela Edna is an artist/singer/songwriter/performer/producer/stylist. Born in 2020 in Montreal, she has had a life-long fascination for the performance arts, music, fashion, and the entertainment industry. She started playing the piano at the age of 12 and launched into piano/voice composition at the age of 14. After various collaborations and an active search to  find her musical identity, in 2018 she reconnected after several years with a childhood friend, Eius Echo over an endeavor they shared: to create music. He also encourages  her to sing in French, which has turned out to be a revelation for her. Since then, she has collaborated with several established Montreal artists such as LaF, Calamine, Qualité Motel, Superplage and others. Her crystalline and transcendent voice, easily recognizable in its high register, makes  her  unique in her performance of raw and engaged lyrics on various subjects related to being a woman in the 21st century.

EIUS ECHO

Dominic Walther Battista, aka Eius Echo, began his musical training at the age of 7 with private piano lessons in classical music. At the age of 17, he began using electronic music production software such as Maschine and Ableton Live. This passion led him to discover various musical styles, such as experimental electronic music. Between 2019 and 2022, he produced and collaborated on over fifteen projects with artists including Xela Edna, Astralopithèque, Edai, Bkay of LaF, Robert, Les Fourmis, Eux Zautes, as well as solo. His sound practice belongs to a demanding and avant-garde movement in his artistic milieu, drawing his creativity both from his physical sound environment and from modular synthesis and catchy rhythms. Since the beginning of 2021, he has been earning his living through sound design and with support from several grants from Concordia University and the government. In the fall of 2022, he will commence his final  year of his Bachelor's degree in Electroacoustics.

BEAU NECTAR (BC / SK)

Beau Nectar is a collaboration between two bilingual singer-songwriters separated by 3000 km of forests, rivers, mountains and prairies. Marie-Clo, Franco-Ontarian, and éemi, Fransaskoise, unite for one album. They deliver intimate, vibrant and surreal electronic pop with eco-feminist lyrics that spark their fans' empathy towards nature.

In 2017, while competing at the Planète BRBR finale (a music competition for francophone musicians outside Québec), the two reach a secret agreement: to share a portion of the grand prize, regardless of who the jury crowns the winner. Thus, the two artists come out winners. This is what gives them the strength to pursue their solo careers independently for a few years, while continuing to fuel the growth of this forest they have just planted.

In 2022, their forest is dense and mature. With the support of MusicAction, the Canada Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council, the Ottawa Music Industry Coalition and the Conseil culturel fransaskois, Marie-Clo & éemi enter a symbiotic relationship. Their songs personify flora and fauna, draw inspiration from modern science, and showcase co-evolution : their friendship. The first one, “Two Lips Part I” will be released on May 20, 2022.

MARIE-CLO

The Franco-Ontarian multidisciplinary chameleon Marie-Clo decides to plant a garden. Following the success of her first French EP Faune, she plants another, her first full album, this time mainly in English: Shell(e), released in three parts in 2020 and 2021. With international recognition, Shell(e) topped many national charts (Sirius XM, Stingray, Radio-Canada, etc.), won « Album of the Year » with the Capital Music Awards and a Trille Or for her single “Red Flag”.

ÉEMI

The tireless Fransaskoise bee, éemi, collects nectar from several flowers to make honey. She also released « Honey », her first EP, which received nominations at the Western Canadian Music Awards, the Saskatchewan Music Awards and the Gala des prix Trille Or.
