This show is presented in partnership with

MATT STERN + JESSICA PICKERSGILL (B.C)

It all began with an accidental encounter with a talented young woman, thanks to Matt's dog, named Max. It was just like reading the script for a classic Disney dog story. Except maybe... Even though the music, the undercurrent to the story, could take the analogy even further, the premise for Matt Stern’s new album in French, which he will unveil for the first time in this 2021 edition of the festival, has more to do with a pandemic story than a fairy tale. In 2020, Matt gave us a foretaste, and this time, after working for a long time with numerous collaborators, the final product unveils the flavour of a creative enterprise that was well worth the trouble.

It is mainly the story of two neighbours, both musicians, who, in a locked-down city took the opportunity to create something together; he is a folk music composer-songwriter who is very familiar with the Canadian music festival scene, a winner at the Los Angeles Film Awards, at the Victoria Film Festival and at KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival for his captivating music videos. She is a composer-performer who is a member of the local group Auburn Blind and an award-winning classical violist with a Masters in performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, having played in Canada and around the world, in Italy, Russia and in the United States. Harmonizing through waves of nostalgia, playful melodies, gentle calming music and authentic complicity, this duo will present their first work, a collection of relaxing folk titles that bring people together inclusively.

ALFA ROCOCO (QC)

Born of the encounter between Justine Laberge and David Bussières in 2004, Alfa Rococo was, from the moment it arrived on the Quebec music scene, proof of the inalterable power of a catchy refrain. Beyond the simple sum of each of their creative visions, the duo takes on a powerful identity, the combination of two voices that enhance each other. For this pair, the elegantly catchy melodies become so many hands reaching out to the audience, an invitation to turn towards the light, in spite of the occasional black-outs of a dizzying existence. For thousands of their fans, songs of the “lovers now parents” will become their everyday soundtrack, pushed to the top of the BDS charts, “Lever l’ancre”, “Les jours de pluie”, “Chasser le malheur”, “Météore”. Performances in Canada, France, Belgium, Mexico and in Lebanon, 2 Félix trophies at the Quebec Music Industry Awards, 2018 Discovery of the Year and 2008 Pop Album of the Year, 11 nominations in other categories over the years, including 5 in the category Song of the Year, and 2 others for the Félix-Leclerc de la Chanson Prize, all testify to this privileged bond with audiences.

At the dawn of its 15th anniversary in the recording industry, Alfa Rococo is proof that longevity does not tarnish anything, not love, or inspiration. Following on the poignant song “Les choses invisibles”, composed with the words of their five-year old child, Marine, released in the spring of 2020 in support of the Sainte-Justine Children Hospital (Montreal) and its mission, in June Justine and David brought out “Du soleil à Pékin”, a lively pop round, the fruit of a fortunate collaboration with Laurence Nerbonne, that bodes well for a much anticipated follow up (a new album to come in a near future).
