THE JUSTE POUR RIRE 2010 EVENT AND THE CULTURAL OLYMPIAD

A key pillar of the 2010 Winter Games, Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad will showcase the finest in Canadian and international arts and culture through a series of three festivals. This is the first time an Olympic Winter Games has hosted a Cultural Olympiad two years before Games time.

Being part of the Cultural olympiad, le Centre culturel francophone is proud to present the 2010 Juste pour rire event.

The 2010 edition will be held on Friday, February 19th at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage (2750 Granville Street, Vancouver) and on Saturday, February 20th at the Place de la francophonie (Granville Island).

FRANCOIS MASSICOTTE, February 19th 2010, Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage

François Massicotte is one of the big names on the Québécois comedy scene. Born in Trois-Rivières, he went to the École Nationale de l'Humour when it first opened in 1987. In 1989, the very first time he participated in the Juste Pour Rire gala, he made his mark and launched a career that now span almost 20 years on stage. Along the way, he garnered credentials as a host, comedic actor and series writer with ease. In 1990-1991, he opened for Céline Dion's shows, and his popularity led to the production of his own show in 1992. All along, he kept up his involvement in projects he loved, especially in film, but stage performance remained his chosen art form. Recently nominated at the latest ARTIS gala, he will perform his fifth show, Massicotte #5, at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

Flash Back on Just pour Rire

Vancouver’s first Juste pour rire comedy event was held on February 6th and 7th 2009 at the Norman Rothstein Theatre and the Fire Hall Arts Center. This first season of the Juste Pour Rire event in Western Canada brought together renowned artists like Martin Petit for his one man show entitled “humour libre”, Sylvain Larocque, Nabila Ben Youssef, Eddy King, Julie Caron and Charlypop in the gala performance “Rire au Québec”. This comedy week-end was a great success. Seats were sold out on both nights and the audience couldn’t stop laughing! Slated to become a regular event in the coming seasons, Juste pour rire made a point of featuring immigrant artists, demonstrating that humour can be a vehicle for strong positive values in our society. Vancouver’s Juste Pour Rire event was talked about all around the worls and across Canada, which augurs well for a brilliant future.
