Francophone "Coup de Coeur"

Every year!

Every month in November, Coup de coeur francophone presents in Vancouver a series of concerts celebrating Francophone music and songs. This label of Coup de coeur originated in Montreal in 1997, as a statement of our attachment to Francophone culture and music. Today, different art presenters in Canada use this label for a series of concerts that are organized independently, but are united in this desire to celebrate the arts through music and songs in the French language. Le Centre created the Coup de coeur francophone concerts in Vancouver in 1995.

LEOFFENDERS

Monday, November 23rd, 1.30pm, Ecole Jules Verne
Friday, November 27th, 12.30pm, Kitsilano High Schooll

Under a veneer of pop, the duo Leoffenders emanate some catching rock’n’roll vibes.  Josée Allard and Danielle Hébert are no stage rookies and every show they do is a renewed demonstration of the palpable magic that exists between these two accomplished singer-songwriters.
Josée Allard, a native of British Columbia, first picked up a guitar at the age of 10, and she still plays it as well as the double bass. Well known for her charismatic stage presence, she launched her first album under her own name in 2004, followed by La Sirène in 2008, an album that received a WCMA (Western Canadian Music Awards) nomination.
Danielle Hébert was raised in a very artistic family in Quebec, far from any big cities. It was no surprise when she turned spontaneously to music. With four albums under her belt already, including Paris is for Lovers that was launched in 2007, she is one of the uncontested luminaries on the francophone music scene in Western Canada.
Together, the Leoffenders carried off the 2009 Muziklips competition in British Columbia and they continue to make new conquests in with their acidic harmonies and their fiery accompaniment on guitar.

MARIE-PIERRE ARTHUR

Nominated for three Felix awards at the 2009 ADISQ Gala in the categories “Discovery of the Year”, “Folk Album of the Year” and “Popular Song of the Year”, Marie-Pierre Arthur’s entry into the francophone music scene is not going unnoticed. This artist from Quebec launched her first solo album under her own name in March 2009 before a packed house and an enthusiastic audience. With her exceptional voice and great stage experience, she will present her ethereal songs, which are both sweet and rhythmic, in an intimate folk style that fully projects her melodic sensitivity and her irresistible charm.
