STÉPHANIE PALISSE
"Vancouver-Paris, so near, so far"

The opening will be held on Thursday, 24 April 2008 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the lobby of Le Centre.
Wine and cheese will be served.
Exhibition: From 23 April to 11 June 2008 (FREE!)

Wherever life takes her, Stephanie Palisse looks at the City as an image in black and white. She artfully stops a moment in time, and makes a special place stand still. In this show, she takes us on a quest for those vertical lines that ensnare us, smother us, but draw us upward at the same time. This collection brings together 23 of her most beautiful photos, taken in Paris and Vancouver, but also San Francisco and Lyon.

Her passion: the endless search for the fingerprints of humanity, forgotten, buried under the concrete. For the City-with its features in steel, unmoving, harsh and oppressive-is also a place where the furious rumblings of life can be heard. From France to Canada, as if revelling in a state of intoxication, the artist spies on these remains of humanity in the heart of a tumultuous urban landscape.

Few university courses in France about Robert Doisneau and especially Henri Cartier-Bresson photography, and notably the architecture, the construction of their pictures, have opened her eyes on the world surrounding us. It all started when her father showed her the dark room set up in the cellar of their family home. In a retreat from time in this silent space, photography came to her as something necessary and inevitable.
