THE PETITE-VALLÉE SINGERS
Family Concert

In their day jobs, these singers include an innkeeper, a grocer, a school teacher, and a nurse in the town of Petite Vallée in the Gaspé Peninsula. For six years they have been performing together, singing original compositions about the minor incidents and major events that mark their lives as townspeople. Their show, "Les vraies gens" ("Real People") is a wonderful blend of authenticity, folklore and conviviality, celebrated in choral music that is full of humour and good cheer. Let them transport you into the life and music of the Petite-Vallée microcosm, which will delight young and old alike.

Four talented artists are dedicated to introducing young people to the French-language music of today, forging a spirit of conviviality. Let them have the couch for the night...

Saint-Pierre (British Columbia) A singer-songwriter-composer who has burst out on the Franco-British Columbian scene by winning honours at Pacifique en Chanson and Chant'Ouest competitions in 2006. Music with a touch of jazz, driven by the new wave of French songwriting.

Raphaël Freynet (Alberta) He seduces listeners with his folk-influenced songs, transporting them into his imagination, then bringing them back down to earth with toe-tapping funk-rock.

Daniel Roa (Manitoba) His songs, marked by a personal, social flavour, are backed by nuanced, rhythmic guitar playing. A Manitoban legend not to be missed!

Anique Granger (Saskatchewan) A self-taught, agile and fiercely independent artist, she leads listeners into a sensuous, uplifting universe, rich in contrasts, where the soulful guitar playing admirably underlines the intensity of her melodies and the importance of her words.

J-P LEBLANC

At the age of just 22, this young man from New Brunswick has already made his mark in a musical genre that few have dared to take on: the blues. J-P Leblanc never ceases to amaze his audiences with his ability to play the guitar. His latest album, Le blues m'emporte, featuring a number of his own compositions, received enthusiastic reviews from critics for his successful attempt to combine the blues with the French language. He was nominated at the 2005 Maple blues Awards in the Best New Blues Artist category.

SAULE

Baptiste Lalieu, alias Saule, is a talented young Belgian singer and songwriter. Adept at a minimalist style that features acoustic guitar, his music also introduces other sounds that always give faithful expression to the atmosphere created by his lyrics. His music has been influenced by some of the great French and Belgian artists, like Georges Brassens and Jacques Higelin, but also by more recent performers like Tryo, Cali and Bénabar. A hit discovery on the francophone music scene in 2007, Saule has toured festivals in Europe and Quebec, bringing his musicianship and his talents as a story teller. Let's give him a warm welcome in Vancouver! In return he is sure to give us a fabulous "Saulo" performance.
